Creating a mural

by

Throughout April I have been painting a mural on the wall of the children’s library in Victoria Park. The whole experience has been both terrifying and wonderful.Sometimes we don’t know what we are capable of until we try.

I almost didn’t take on this job. The task felt beyond me. Then I broke it down into stages and asked for help. The help came from my son Brian, my husband Ed and a gorgeous artist friend called Rita.

Brian prepared and painted the base coats. He is a house painter by trade so he knew exactly what was needed.

Ed sourced a platform for working from that was stable and did some of the donkey work transferring my drawings to the wall.

Rita came and painted.

I will be sorry to finish. As each little figure and motif went on the wall it was as if I said hello to them.Painting big is fun.I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to do this work. Maybe there will be more.

    Hi Liliana,

I am writing to you regarding one of your kids book “Amelia Ellicotts Garden”. I urge you to please change the name of the cat in that book.

  3. Hi Hassan, I’m sorry this isn’t possible because the book has been published for 15 years. If I’ve caused any offence by using this name I am sorry, it was not intended.
